Playa Mitjorn

Playa Mitjorn Formentera, or Platja de Mitjorn runs across the south coast of the island. At five kilometres in length is the longest beach. Platja de Mitjorn means ‘midday beach’ and it has areas of rocky coastline interspersed with sandy beaches, running from Es Pal Mas to Es Copinar. The section between Ca Mari and Es Arenals is the most popular, and nudist bathing is common. The main developments on the beach are at either end, and for the most part it is a strip of unspoiled coastline that gives Es Trucadors a run for its money.

View to the Eastern end of Mitjorn

When you are travelling along the PM820 you will see multiple roads leading to the different areas that make up Platja de Mitjorn. If you are heading east out of Sant Ferran then the first beach that you will see to your right is Ca Mari. The defence tower of Es Pi d’es Catala is located on the western part of the beach, and it is a great vantage point from which to view all the areas that make up Mitjorn: Es Ca Mari, Raco Fondo, Es Codol Foradat, Els Valencians, Es Alrenals and Maryland.

Mitjorn can be rocky in places.

To get to the most beautiful part of the beach you should turn at the 8km point of the PM-820. Lucky and Blue Bar are two local institutions that have based themselves here. Lucky is an Italian restaurant with a relaxed ambiance. It is not too expensive and usually has good fresh fish. After a lunch at Lucky you can head to Blue Bar which has a terrace overlooking the ocean. Most people come for the ambient music and hippy-appeal, but the restaurant is pretty decent too.

Further east are the Maryland and Es Arenals beaches. To access the area you can take the PM-820 and turn of at the 13km mark when you see the large sign for the Riu hotel. This area has more of a resort feel to it, but is still quieter than Es Pujols. If you would prefer one of the more traditional spots, then El Torrent de s’Alga is still used by the local fishermen as a harbour.

If you decide to stay near Playa Mitjorn Formentera then the area around Es Ca Mari is a good choice, as it has a range of pretty accommodation up a short hill. It’s a good location because you are also close to the Spar supermarket and Sant Ferran. You will have a more authentic holiday at one the pensions or farmhouses in this area than you would at one of the large hotels.

    Hi there

Anyone know a good authentic farmhouse or pension in the es car mari area please?
I’d like to find somewhere local and beautiful and not a big hotel complex.

    Thanks in advance:)
