Sa Tanca Vell
The old church of Sa Tanca Vell is more interesting than Eglesia de Sant Francesc Xavier in many ways. Built in the 14th century it’s difficult to picture a congregation squeezing into this tiny Formentera chapel. It is just over five meters in length, and two meters high.
The building was constructed from rough sandstone blocks in 1362, and then rebuilt in 1697. Until Eglesia de Sant Francesc Xavier was built in 1726 this tiny building was the island’s only place of worship.
